Question:
Find the length of the pendulum with a period of 6 s. Express your answer to the nearest tenth. (Use pi = 3.14)

Pendulum Formula: T=2pi(sqrt(l/g)) Want to solve for l: square both sides:
T^2=4(pi^2)(l/g) Multiply both sides by g
(T^2)(g)=4(pi^2)(l) divide both sides by 4(pi^2)
((T^2)(g))/(4(pi^2))=l now we plug in the values:
NOTE: g=9.8m/(sec^2)

l=((6^2)(9.8))/(39.44)=
l=((36)(sec^2)(9.8)m/(sec^2))/39.44
l=8.9 meters

Actually, you can solve this by plugging in the values without solving for l
T=2pi(sqrt(l)/sqrt(g))
6=6.28(sqrt(l)/3.13 Note: call it 3.14
6=2sqrt(l)
3=sqrt(l) square both sides
l=9 meters
ck by using a calculator

Hope this helps---ptaylor
