Answer by sister_insomnia(8)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The GCF of the polynomial 8x4y and 6x2y2 is easy to find.
First, look at the two coefficents: 8 and 6.
Start by listing their factors. 6= 1,2,3,6 and 8=1,2,4
When examining their factors it is clear that 2 is the greatest common factor between 6 and 8 therefore your coefficent is going to be 2.
Then, look at x^4y and x^2y^2
x^4 and x^2- x^2 is the only factor between the two that can go into both. Therefore, x^2 is the second part of you answer.
Next, look and y and y^2- y is the only factor that goes into both evenly.
Therefore, your answer is 2x^2y
