For the function, y = 1/x-1
a) give the y values for x= -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3
Show your work
b) Using these points, draw a curve

--------------------------------

I can't tell whether you mean

       1
y = -------
     x - 1

or whether you mean

     1
y = --- - 1
     x

because when you type a fractional
equation all on one line you MUST
put parentheses around numerators
and denominators to show where they
start and where they end.

If your problem is

       1
y = -------
     x - 1

then
 x | y
-------
-2 | -1/3
-1 | -1/2
 0 | -1
 1 | undefined
 2 | 1
 3 | 1/2

and the graph is this:

where the green and red vertical line
is one asymptote and the x-axis is the
other asymptote. They aren't part of
the graph itself. They are just the
two lines that the red graph approaches
but never quite touches.

If your problem is

     1
y = ---
     x

then
 x | y
-------
-2 |-3/2 = -1.5
-1 | -2
 0 | undefined
 1 |  0
 2 |-1/2
 3 |-1/3

and the graph is this:

where the blue horizontal line is one
asymptote and the y-axis is the other
asymptote. They aren't part of the
graph itself. They are just the two
lines that the red graph approaches
but never quite touches.
