QUESTION:
Find the difference: (1-9i)-(5-i^2-8i)
ANSWER:

We have the value i^2 = -1

So,

Remove the brackets first,

(1-9i)-(5-i^2-8i) = 1 - 9i - 5 + i^2 + 8i

= 1 - 9i - 5 + -1 + 8i
= 1 - 5 + -1 -9i + 8i
= -5 -1i

Which is the required answer.
