when you are adding and subtracting rational numbers is there an easier way to remember the rules that go to each.
------------
You can only add or subtract fractions when they have the same denominator.
---------
Example:
3/4 +2/5
Can't add as they stand, but:
3/4 = 3*5/4*5=15/20
2/5 = 2*4/5*4=8/20
Now both fractions have the same denominator
so they can be added:
Adding you get 23/20
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Stan H.
