Question 57515: Give the domain:
a) 3/(x^2-4
b) (the square root of)x^2+6
c) (the square root of) 2x-1
d) 3/(x+1)
e) 3/(x^2-9)
f) x+7

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) 3/(x^2-4
The denominator cannot be zero so
x cannot be 2 or -2.
Domain: all real numbers except 2 and -2
-------------------------
b) (the square root of)x^2+6
The radicand cannot be negative so
x^2+6>=0
Domain: x>=sqrt6 or x<=-sqrt6
---------------
c) (the square root of) 2x-1
2x-1>=0
Domain: x>-1/2
d) 3/(x+1)
All real numbers except x=-1
----------------
e) 3/(x^2-9)
All real numbers except x=3 or x=-3
---------------
f) x+7
All real numbers
-----------
