: I am a nursing student and I am required to take college algebra. I took it on line and I am really struggling. Please help, I have to pass this class to move on to my next nursing class in January.
Use the following function definitions f(x)=-x^+2x g(x)=!3-2x!(absolute value)
h(x)=sqrt 5-x p(x)=2/x to evaluate the following: (g+h)(2)=________________
(h/p)(-3)=________________.
For part 1 I have g(2)+h(2)= 2!3-2x!+2(sqrt 5-2) =2!3-2x!+10-4
= 2!3-2x!+6
The instructor did not give an example w/ absolute value or square roots and his questions do not come from the book. We had to have cds burned at the beginning of the semester. I am not book smart and I'm just not getting this. Thanks so much for your help. This question is from textbook

h(x)=sqrt 5-x
p(x)=2/x

to evaluate the following:
(g+h)(2)= g(2) + h(2)
=|3-2*2| + sqrt5 -2
=1 + sqrt5 -2
=-1+sqrt5
---------------
(h/p)(-3)
= h(-3)/p(-3)
=[sqrt5--3]/[2/(-3)]
=[sqrt5 + 3]/[-2/3]
=(-3/2)(sqrt5 +3)
