Question 513811: solve the equation:
(3a/(2a+1))- (4/(2a-1)) = 1

Answer by lwsshak3(11628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solve the equation:
(3a/(2a+1))- (4/(2a-1)) = 1
LCD:(2a+1)(2a-1)
3a(2a-1)-4(2a+1)=(2a+1)(2a-1)=4a^2-1
6a^2-3a-8a-4=4a^2-1
2a^2-11a-3=0
use x in place of a
2x^2-11x-3=0
solve for x using following quadratic formula:
..
..
a=2, b=-11, c=-3
x=[-(-11)±√(-11)^2-4*2*-3)]/2*2
x=[11±√(121+24)]/4
x=[11±√145]/4
x=(11±12.04)/4
x=5.76
or
x=-0.26
