Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + 5y = 1
x + 2y = -2
------------ Subtract
3y = 3
y = 1
------
x = -4
================
3x + 5y = 9
2x + 5y = 6
------------ Subtract, etc, same as #1

to solve by any method.
#1 x + 5y = 1
x + 2y = -2
---
Subtract and solve for "y":
3y = 3
y = 1
---
Solve for "x":
x + 2y = -2
x + 2*1 = -2
x + 2 = -2
x = -4
----------------------------------------------

#2 3x + 5y = 9
2x + 5y = 6
---
Subtract and solve for "x":
x = 3
---
Solve for "y":
2x + 5y = 6
2*3 + 5y = 6
6 + 5y = 6
5y = 0
y = 0
