: I am having a problem with my final exam study guide. The problem is "The ratio of boys to girls is 2 to 5. If the total number of students is 182, how many boys are in the class?" So far I have tried 2/5 = x/182 and came up with an answer of 72.8 boys. Is this the correct answer? If not, can you show me step by step how to answer it? Thank you for the help! Use the odds (2:5) to detemine amount of boys(x):

"The ratio of boys to girls is 2 to 5. If the total number of students is 182, how many boys are in the class?"
A ratio of 2 to 5 means the number of boys is some multiple of 2 and
the number of girls is the same number multiple of 5.
So, let the unknown multiple number be "x".
EQUATION:
2x+5x=182
7x=182
x=26
So the number is boys is (26)*2=52
and the number ofgirls is (26)*5=130
