Question 37257: Could you please help me simplify this rational expression?
(q/q-3) + (10/q-3) = -12

Answer by fractalier(6550)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Okay from
(q/q-3) + (10/q-3) = -12
we can add the terms on the left (since they are like fractions) and get
(q + 10) / (q - 3) = -12
Then cross-multiply and simplify, giving us
q + 10 = -12(q - 3)
q + 10 = -12q + 36
Now solving for q
13q = 26 and
q = 2
Check to be sure it's okay for q to be equal to 2...it is, so
q = 2
