Take each of the binomials and set them equal to zero one at a time. The solutions will be the critical
values. Graph the point
for each of the critical
values. This will divide the
-axis into 4 segments. For each of the segments, select a value that is not one of the endpoints of the segment, substitute that value for
and determine if the original inequality is true. If true, the interval from which the test value was selected is part of the solution set of the original inequality. If false, that interval needs to be excluded. Of the four intervals, two of them will be included in the solution set and two will not. Since the original inequality excludes equality, none of the endpoints are included in the solution set intervals.
