: I'm trying to find solutions to this equation:
Sq Root of (11-x^2) - 2 / sq root of (11-x^2) = 1
I tried rationalizing the denominator and squaring the left hand side but I'm left with x^2-8=0. My solution set comes out to x= +/- 2 times the sq root of 2 which I know cannot be.

well i am sorry..i thought you were telling that you got sqrt.8 as answer and the book gave it as 2sqrt2..and you were worried.but that does not seem to be the case.the answr is basically not correct
let me show you the solution.
Sq Root of (11-x^2) - 2 / sq root of (11-x^2) = 1
Sq Root of (11-x^2) - 2 = sq root of (11-x^2) if this is what you typed ,it has no solution as it leads to -2=0...if the problem is typed wrong please inform.
