Hello,
Let's get rid of the fractions in this (-15 / x = x+16/ 4) by multiplying both sides by 4x which will give us:
-15(4) = x(x+16) Rewrite this as:
-60=x^2+16x Add 60 to both sides will be:
0=x^2+16x+60 Now we can factor this to be:
0=(x+10)(x+6) Now we can solve x which are:
x=-10
x=-6
You can check these by plugging the answer into the original problem.
Make sense?
