Square both sides:
x%5E2+%2B+5+=+%28x%2B3%29%5E2
x%5E2+%2B+5+=+x%5E2+%2B+6x+%2B+9

Subtract x^2 from each side:
5+=+6x+%2B+9
5-9+=+6x
-4%2F6=+x
x=-2%2F3

Check answer for extraneous roots:
