6+ = y-
First get like terms together, so subtract y from both sides;
6+-y=y--y
6+-y=-
Now subtract 5y from both sides;
6+-y-=--
6-y=-
Multiply -y to both sides;
6-y(-y)=-(-y)
-6y+=7
Now subtract 7 from both sides;
-6y-7=0
Factor;
(y-7)(y+1)=0
y-7=0 y+1=0
y=7 or y=-1
