Question 211534: Assume you want to add two rational expressions with 4x+2 and 2x+1 in the respective denominators. Discuss the steps you would take to properly add the expressions with these denominators.
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5/(4X+2)+7/(2X+1)
FIRST WE NEED A COMMON DENOMINATOR.
THIS WOULD BE (4X+2)(2X+1).
NOW MULTIPLY THE FIRST NUMERATOR BY (2X+1) & ADD THE SECOND NUMERATOR MULTIPLIED BY (4X+2) ALL OVER THE COMMON DENOMINATOR (4X+2)(2X+1).
[5(2X+1)+7(4X+2)]/(4X+2)(2X+1)
[10X+5+28X+14]/(4X+2)(2X+1)
[38X+19]/(4X+2)(2X+1)
19(2X+1)/(4X+2)(2X+1)
NOW CANCEL OUT THE (2X+1) TERMS.
19/(4X+2) ANS.
