The axis of symmetry is the line x = -b/2a
x = -2/2 = -1
x = -1 (equation of axis of symmetry)

f(x)=(x^2 + 2x) + 5
f(x)=(x^2 + 2x + __ ) + 5
f(x)=(x^2 + 2x + 1 ) + 5 - 1
f(x)=(x+1)^2 + 4
f(x)=(x-(-1))^2 + 4 (vertex form)
