Question 189444: Need some help with this problem. 159.5-0.1x^2=159.5(112)-0.1(112)(112)= I multiply 159.9(112) and got 17,864 now I need to substitute x for 112 could you please explain substitute. The second problem. The mass of Pluto is about 1.31x10^19 metric tons. The mass of the sun is about 1.998x10^27 metric tons. About how many times the mass of Pluto is the mass of the sun? Give your answer in scientific notation. The mass of the sun is about __ times the mass of Pluto. Round to the nearest thousandth as needed. Use scientific notation. Use the multiplication symbol in the math palette as needed. Could you explain scientific notation and math palette. Thank you!

159.5-0.1x^2=159.5(112)-0.1(112)(112)
Multiply by 10
1595 - x^2 = 1595*112 - 112*112
1595 - x^2 = 166096
x^2 = -164501
x = +405.587i
x = -405.587i
I suspect something is wrong.
