Question 132591:
simplify the rational expression using factoring and cancellation
(^ = squared)
1. x^2-9 / x-3
2. x^2-x-12 / x-4
3. x^2-4 / x-1
4. 6x^2+x-12 /3x-4

Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) (X^2-9)/(X-3)=(X-3)(X+3)/(X-3)=(X+3) ANSWER.
2) (X^2-X-12)/(X-4)=(X-4)(X+3)/(X-4)=(X+3) ANSWER.
3) (X^2-4)/(X-1)=(X+2)(X-2)/(X-1) NO ADDITIONAL REDUCTION POSSIBLE.
4) (6X^2+X-12)/(3X-4)=(3X-4)(2X+3)/(3X-4)=(2X+3) ANSWER.
