Question 1184855: Hi, I hope you are doing great. Can you help me?
You are the manager of a restaurant and you want to optimize as well as maximize the working capacity of four of your employees. Baratie has 45 tables and each table seats 4 people. You have observed the average time (in minutes) each of your employees take to set a table as well as the average time each take to fold the four napkins in the table which you have tabulated.
EMPLOYEE AVERAGE TIME TO SET A TABLE , AVERAGE TIME TO FOLD 4 NAPKINS
Patty 5, 4
Carne 7, 3
Sanji 4, 2
Luffy 3, 5
Situation: In order for your restaurant to be ready for opening in the least amount of time, which two among your employees should you assign to fold the napkins? How about which two should be assigned with the setting of the tables?

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
your have 4 employees.
you want to divide them into sets of two.
the formula for that is C(4,2) = 4! / (2! * 2!).
the number of teams that can be made are (4*3*2*1)/(2*1*2*1)
factor out the 2'2 in the bottom with their multiples in the top to get:
(3*2*1)/(1*2) = 6 teams.
let:
P = patty
C = carne
S = sanji
L = Luffy

the 6 teams formed from PCSL are:

PC
PS
PL
CS
CL
SL

if your first team is PC, then the second team has to be a team that does not have a P or a C in it.

same for any other team you pick.

the possible team pairings from PCSL are:

FIRST PAIR IS SETUP TEAM
SECOND PAIR IS FOLD NAPKINS TEAM

               SETUP        NAPKINS

PC SL
SL PC

PS CL
CL PS

PL CS
CS PL

CS PL           DUPLICATE - REMOVED
PL CS           DUPLICATE - REMOVED

CL PS           DUPLICATE - REMOVED
PS CL           DUPLICATE - REMOVED

SL PC           DUPLICATE - REMOVED
PC SL           DUPLICATE - REMOVED

we are left with 3 pairs that are not duplicates of each other.

they are:

               SETUP        NAPKINS       COMBINED TOTAL

PC SL           12            7                19
SL PC            7            7                14

PS CL            9            8                17
CL PS           10            6                16

PL CS            8            5                13      *****
CS PL           11            9                20

the winning pairs are:

PL CS with a combined total of 13 minutes which is the minimum total time to set up a table and fold napkins.

that's the team of patti and luffy for setup, and the team of carni and sanji for folding napkins.

patty and luffy took 5 + 3 = 8 minutes to set up a table.
carnie and sanji took 3 + 2 = 5 minutes to fold napkins.
their combine time was 13 minutes for both.

that's what i get.

i'd go with patty and luffi for setting up a table, and carnie and sanji for folding napkins.
