Question 1137141: The kinetic energy K of a moving object varies jointly with its mass m and the square of its velocity v. If an object weighing 40 kilograms with a velocity of 15 meters per second has a kinetic energy of 1000 joules, what is the kinetic energy if the velocity is increased to 20 meters per second?

This post consists of three sentences.

The first sentence
"The kinetic energy K of a moving object varies jointly with its mass m and the square of its velocity v."
is correct and makes sense.

The second sentence
"If an object weighing  40  kilograms with a velocity of 15 meters per second has a kinetic energy of  1000  joules"

is totally wrong, since the described object under the described condition has kinetic energy  NOT   1000  joules,

but   E = = = 4500 joules.

It is clear from the post that its author is absolutely not familiar with the subject.
