 Actully, the formula for gravity is -16 ft/sē, so the swimmers height can be modeled by h(t)=-16tē+14t+30. When the swimmer hits the water, h(t)=0. So:
0=-16tē+14t+30
Then:
16tē-14t-30=0
8tē-7t-15=0
(8t-15)(t+1)=0
t=15/8 or -1
Since time can't be negative, the swimmer enters the water after 15/8, or 1.875 seconds.
