Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the domain and the range after graphing: y= x^2 - 1
-----------------------
Domain:
Start with the assumption that the domain is "all Real Numbers".
Then look at your equation to see if certain forms there restrict
the values of "x":
Examples:
1/(x-2) which means x cannot "2"
sqrt(x-2) which requires that x be >=2
log(x-2) which requires that x be >=2
--------------
Your problem:
None of these restrictions are present so the domain is "All Real Numbers".
===================
Range:
Your problem:
y=x^2-1
For all Real numbers, x^2 is >=0
So for x^2-1, y will be >=-1
So the range is "All Real Numbers >=-1"
=======================
