The fast pipe is an unknown (f), the slow pipe is 1.25 times slower than the fast pipe (1.25f) and working together, they equal (5). Then I break them into units: 1/f + 1/1.25f = 1/5. My first instinct was to add 3 and 2 to get 5 and then divide that by two to find the average and divide that number by two again since they are working on it together.
