.
W=width; L=length=3W+8ft; P=perimeter=2736ft
P=2(L+W) Substitute for L.
2736ft=2(3W+8ft+W) Divide each side by 2
1368ft=4W+8ft Subtract 8ft from each side.
1360ft=4W Divide each side by 4
340ft=W
L=3W+8ft=3(340ft)+8ft=1028ft ANSWER: The field is 1028 feet long.
CHECK:
P=2(L+W)
2736ft=2(1028ft+340ft)
2736ft=2(1368ft)
2736ft=2736ft
