Question 94362: Danija and Stephanie are exercising 3 times a week. Yesterday Steph exercised 9 minutes more than Danija. If they exercie a total of 51 minutes yesterday, how long did each girl exercise?
Danija's time = ______
Stephanie time= ______
Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=amount of time that Danija exercised
Then x+9=amount of time that Steph exercised
Now we are told that Danija's time + Steph's time=51 minutes. So:
x+x+9=51 subtract 9 from both sides
x+x+9-9=51-9 collect like terms
2x=42 divide both sides by 2
x=21 minutes--------------------------Danija's time
x+9=21+9=30 minutes---------------------Steph's time
CK
21+30=51
51=51
