One pipe can fill a tank in 3 hours. With a second pipe also in operation the tank can be filled in 2 hours. How long would it take the second pipe alone to fill the tank?
***
1/3=fill rate of first pipe
1/x=fill rate of second pipe
1/2=fill rate with both pipes in operation
..
Sum of indv rates=rate working together
1/3+1/x=1/2
1/2-1/3=1/x
3/6-2/6=1/x
1/6=1/x
x=6
How long would it take the second pipe alone to fill the tank? 6 hrs
