Question 935710: help me solve this. A local business person has offered to sponser the painting of the classroom in your school.he wants the grade 9 learner to find out the total cost for painting the classrooms.the learners are requested to provide the following information:
1.total area of the surface that needs painting
2.total quantity of paint(in liters)needed
3.total cost of the paint(quotation to at least two shops)
4.labor cost in painting the rooms.
5.total cost of the classroom
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.
you must find the total area to be painted expressed in square feet.
that would be the area of the walls and the area of the ceiling.
from that you would need to subtract the area of the windows and the area of the doors and any other surface that will not be painted that is part of the surface area of the walls.
area equals length * width so do you measurements and you should have the total area to be painted.
2.
find out how many square feet each can of paint holds and then divide the total surface area to be painted by the number of square feet per liter of paint. this gives you the number of liters of paint that will be required.
since paint is normal sold in gallons, then you will need to translate gallons to liters using a conversion formula, unless you can find paint that is sold in liters rather than gallons.
3.
find out the cost per liter and multiply the number of liters required by the cost per liter. once again, you may need to convert from cost per gallon to cost per liter, unless you get the cost already expressed in liters.
4.
find out how much painters charge per hour.
then determine how many hours they anticipate it will take to paint the room.
multiply the cost per hour by the number of hours to get the cost of labor to paint the room.
5.
add up the cost of the paint and the cost of the labor to get the total cost.
an example:
1.total area of the surface that needs painting
total area to be painted is 3000 square feet.
2.total quantity of paint(in liters)needed
paint is sold in gallons.
each gallon can typically paint 300 square feet.
total number of gallons is 3000 / 300 = 10 gallons.
1 gallon = 3.78541 liters.
10 gallons is therefore equal to 37.8541 liters.
3.total cost of the paint(quotation to at least two shops)
paint is $10.00 dollars per gallon.
10 gallons are needed, so total cost is equal to 100 dollars.
the total cost will be the same whether you express it in cost per gallon or cost per liter.
if you express it in cost per liter, you will get:
1 gallon = 3.78541 liters.
$10.00 per gallon becomes $10.00 per 3.78541 liters which becomes:
cost per liter = 10/3.78541 = 2.641721769 per liter.
number of liters required is equal to 37.8541, so total cost is equal to 37.8541 * 2.641721769 = 100 dollars.
4.labor cost in painting the rooms.
painters charge $20.00 per hour.
they estimate it will take 5 hours to paint the classroom.
their total charge is 5 * 20 = $100.00 dollars.
5.total cost of the classroom
paint = $100.00
labor = $100.00
total cost = 100 + 100 = $200.00
