Question 924013: 10 men can tile the roof of a house in 9 days. How long would 6men take, working at the same rate
Answer by ptaylor(2198)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=amount of time it would take 6 men to tile the roof
If 10 men can tile a roof in 9 days, then 1 man can tile a roof in 10*9=90 days
Sooooo 1 man works at the rate of (1/90) of a roof per day
6 men would work at the rate of 6/90 of a roof per day
So the rate at which the 6 men work multiplied by the amount of time they work equals the amount of work that gets done (makes sense)
(6/90)x=1 (that would be 1 completed roof)
multiply each side by 90
6x=90
x=15 days----time it would take 6 men
Another way-----
If 10 men can tile a roof in 9 days, then it takes 90 man-days to tile the roof
1 man----90 days
2 men ---45 days
-
-
6 men-- 15 days
-
9 men --10 days
90 men-----1 day (if they don't get in each others way:)

Hope this helps---ptaylor
