One person takes 1.5 times as long to rake a lawn as a second person.
The two people can rake the lawn together in 30 minutes.
Find the time it takes the first person to rake the lawn alone.
:
let t = time required by the 2nd person to do the job
then
1.5t = time required by the 1st person
:
Let the completed job = 1, (a beautiful leaf-free lawn)
:
A shared work equation
+ = 1
multiply by 1.5t, results
1.5(30) + 30 = 1.5t
45 + 30 = 1.5t
75 = 1.5t, which is the 1st person's time to do it alone
75 minutes is the answer
