If the fill pipe can fill the tank in minutes, then it can fill of the tank in one minute. Likewise the drain can empty of the tank in one minute. Hence, working against one another, given that , of the tank will fill in one minute. Do the arithmetic and then take the reciprocal of the answer to get the number of minutes to fill the tank.
