Question 787184: The perimeter of a rectangle is 41 in and its area is 91 sq inches. find th elength of its shortest side.
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Area = length*breadth
91 = l * b
Length = 91/b
Perimeter = 2*length + 2*breadth
41 = 2(91/b) + 2b
41 = 182/b + 2b
Common denominator = b
41b = 182 + 2b^2
2b^2 - 41b + 182 = 0
(2b - 13)(b - 14) = 0
2b - 13 = 0
b = 13/2
b = 6.5 inches
b - 14 = 0
b = 14 inches
Shortest side = 6.5 inches.
Hope this helps.
