Question 780901: terry can wash a floor in 1 hour, pat can wash it in 2 hours. working together, how long will it take them to wash the floor?
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Terry's rate = 1/1 job/hr
Pat's rate = 1/2 job/hr
Together rate = 1/x job/hr
1/1 + 1/2 = 1/x
Common denominator = 2x
2x + x = 2
3x = 2
x = 2/3
It will take them 40 minutes
working together.
Hope this helps.
