Question 757695: one pipe can fill empty pool in 12 hours, and another in 18 hours. Suppose both pipes are opened at 8 am and swimming scheduled at 2 pm that day. will the pool be filled by then?
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
rate of filling:
( 1 pool ) / ( 12 hrs ) + ( 1 pool ) / ( 18 hrs )
Let = time in hrs to fill pool with both pipes open
Multiply both sides by
hrs
From 8 AM to 2 PM is 6 hrs
The pool will not be filled in time
