If BIll can clean the garage in 4 hours and John can clean the same garage in 3 hours, how many hours will it take them to clean the garage if they work together?
---
Bill rate: 1/4 job/hr
John rate: 1/3 job/hr
together rate: 1/x job/hr
---------
Equation:
rate + rate = together rate
1/4 + 1/3 = 1/x
3x + 4x = 12
7x = 12
x = 12/7 = 1 5/12 = 1hr 25 min (time to do the job together)
