Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) First we need to find out how fast both pipes fill the tank.
b) Then we need to find out how much both pipes fill the tank in 2 hours
c) Then we need to find out much more needs to be filled
d) Then we need to find out how long pipe B will need to complete the job.
a) 1/8+1/6=1/x
x=24/7= 3 3/7=x = 3.4286 hours
b) after 2 hours it has done 2/(24/7) =7/12 =58.33%
c) leaving 5/12
d) 5/12 *6 =5*6/12=2.5 hours for pipe b to complete the job.
