slower painter rate = 1/6 job/hr

faster painter rate = 1/4 job/hr
-----
Together rate (1/6)+(1/4) = 10/24 = 5/12 job/hr

By the time the faster painter starts work the slower
painter has completed 1/6 of the job.

So together they must do 5/6 of the job in x hrs.

Equation:
(5/12)x = 5/6
5x = 10
x = 2 hrs (time they work together)
