Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/4 + 1/6 = 1/t
(1/4)(3/3) + (1/6)(2/2) = 1/t
(1*3)/(4*3) + (1*2)/(6*2) = 1/t
3/12 + 2/12 = 1/t
(3+2)/12 = 1/t
5/12 = 1/t
5t = 12*1
5t = 12
t = 12/5
t = 2 2/5
So it will take 2 2/5 hours, or 2.4 hours (which is 2 hours, 24 minutes) for them to do it together.
