Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Pump A -3 hours
so it does 1/3 of the job in 1 hour
Pump A + B = 1/2 hour
so they do 1/(1/2) of the job in 1 hour=2
difference = 2-1/3= 5/6 of the job in 1 hour
so for 1 job Pump B will take 6/5 hours
1 1/5 hours
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The rate of pumping for the 1st pump
is ponds/hr
Let the rate of the 2nd pump = ponds/hr
-----------
Working together,
Multiply both sides by
hrs
The 2nd pump can drain 1 pond in 6/11 hrs
This is 32.727 min
32 min and 44 sec
