After this group has worked 3 days, another group joins it and together they complete the job in 3 more days.
In what time could the second group have done the job alone?

let t = time required by the 2nd group to do the job alone
let the completed job = 1

From the given information, we know the 1st group worked a total of 6 days.

multiply by 8t, to clear the denominators
6t + 8(3) = 8t
24 = 8t - 6t
24 = 2t
