Ravi took eight coins from his pocket, which contained only dimes(D SAY), nickels(N SAY), and quarters (Q SAY), and bought the Sunday Edition of The Daily Star for 75 cents. If the number of nickels he used was one more than the number of dimes, then how many of each type of coin did he use??
D+N+Q=8.................1...SINCE D=10 C...N=5 CENTS AND Q=25 CENTS
10D+5N+25Q=75..................2
N=D+1..................3
SUBSTITUTING FOR N IN 1 & 2
D+D+1+Q=8.........2D+Q=7..............4
1OD+5D+5+25Q=75........15D+25Q=70..........5
25*EQN.4-EQN.5
5OD+25Q-15D-25Q=7*25-70
35D=175-70=105
D=3
N=3+1=4
Q=1
