If you can fill a tank in 12 minutes, then you can fill of the tank in 1 minute. If you can empty a tank in 16 minutes, then you can empty of the tank in 1 minute.

If both are working together, then



fills in 1 minute.

Apply the LCD, add the two fractions, and then take the reciprocal to find the time to fill with both pumps going.
