It takes Jonathan two thirds as long as it takes Juancho to paint a car. If together Jonathan and Juancho take 12 hours, how long would it take Juancho to do the work alone?
.
Let J = time (hrs) it takes Juancho working alone
then
(2/3)J = time (hrs) for Jonathan
.
12(1/J + 1/(2J/3)) = 1
multiplying both sides by 3:
12(3/J + 1/2J) = 3
multiplying both sides by 2J:
12(6 + 1) = 6J
12(7) = 6J
[12(7)]/6 = J
2(7) = J
14 hours = J
