Question 354420: a cooling tank can be filled by one pipe in 24 minutes and by another pipe in 30 minutes. How long will it take to fill the tank if both pipes are used at the same time?
Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In one minute, 1 pipe does 1/24 and the other does 1/30 of the tank.
1/24 + 1/30 = 54/720 tank/minute
--> 720/54 minutes/tank
= 40/3 minutes
--------------
Notice it's product over sum
24*30/(24+30)
