Water is coming into a tank three times as fast as it is going out. After one hour, the tank contains 11,400 gallons of water. How fast is the water coming in?
-----------------------------
Rate In: 3x
Rate Out: x
-----
Note: Rate*time = quantity
----
After 1 hour 1*3x - 1*x = 11,400 gallons
2x = 11400
x = 5700
3x = 17,100
---
The water is coming in at 17,100 gallons per hour
