Problem: If Sally can paint a house in 4 hours, and Jim can paint the same house in 6
hours, how long would it take to paint the house if they paint together?

Hello!
Please see my lesson on this kind of problems.
If Sally can paint the house in 4 hours, then she paints 1/4 of the house per hour.
If Jim can paint the house in 6 hours, then he paints 1/6 of the house per hour.
Therefore, when working together, their rate of work is of the house per hour. Since they paint 5/12 of the house per hour, then they need 12/5, or 2.4 hours to paint the house together.
I hope this helps!
