Question 276458: A ship sails 60 miles south, 90 miles east and 60 miles south again. How many miles is it from its starting point ?
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What you have is a right triangle.
One side=60+60=120.
The other side=90.
120^2+90^2=d^2
14,400+8,100=d^2
d^2=22,500
d=sqrt22,500
d=150 miles is the distance from the starting point.
