Question 271109: Pipe A can fill a swimming pool in 12 h. After it has been used for 4 1/2 h, Pipe B is also used, and the pool is filled in another 4 1/2 h. How long would it take for the Pipe B to fill the pool by itself? Can you help me with this? Thanks.
Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
pipe A runs for 9 hr (4 1/2 + 4 1/2) ___ it fills 3/4 of the pool (9/12)

this means pipe B fills 1/4 of the pool in 4 1/2 hr

so it would take s pipe B 18 hr (4 * 4 1/2) to fill the pool alone
