Question 183362: For the function f(x) = x^2, find the average rate of change of the function over the interval [-4,-1]. (Hint: x1 = -4, x2 = -1)
Answer by user_dude2008(1862)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Avg rate change = ( f(x2)-f(x1) )/( x2 - x1)

Avg rate change = ( f(-1)-f(-4) )/( -2 + 4 )

Avg rate change = ( 1-4 )/( 2 )

Avg rate change = ( -3 )/( 2 )

Avg rate change = -3 / 2
